SYL Leadership Series

Join us for monthly webinars focused on leadership, learning, and community. Each month will feature a guest host with a unique take on leadership in the Credit Union system. These events are completely free for our community.

Thanks again for having me SYL network – I always have a great time when I’m with you! There was a question during the call that I did not get a chance to respond to which was ‘what’s your advice on getting back on track if we feel ourselves slipping away from wellness?’.

My response to this question is that it’s all within the range of normal. Loss of momentum, set backs and distractions are a part of life and that’s where the discipline and focus need to be present. I recently received a great piece of advice on this very topic which was ‘don’t let grace become permission’. We all grant ourselves grace and kindness to rest, but it can’t be permission to no longer take action. And if we aren’t careful, it can become that.

My advice is acknowledge when you may feel yourself slipping, refocus yourself on your own personal wellness goals and intentions and make the active choices and engage in the activities you need to get back on track. No judgement, no shame; rather personal reflection, applied learning and move forward again. And if it helps you –  leverage your network in this area for accountability.

And keep in mind that your wellness needs in your 20’s will likely be different thank in your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and so on. This will be an area of constant growth and renewal – so enjoy it!

What You Can Expect
Demands and expectations are likely still high, you and your team are working at home with more distractions, less breaks, and for some, caring for kids at the exact same time. Doing all of this might be causing unwanted and unneeded stress for individuals, families and relationships. Building resilience has a tremendous impact on your ability to navigate uncertainty, manage expectations and maintain a sense of well-being and performance, especially in times like these. When you can be REAL and acknowledge how you’re really feeling AND tap into your RESILIENCE by recognizing that your beliefs, thoughts and actions shape how you go through this and where you end up, it can give you a positive path forward. Join Stacey Olson, CPPC for a short presentation: “Being Real & Resilient In Uncertain Times” to better support yourself and others around you to thrive in these uncertain times. She will share guiding principles with proven science and simple strategies to tap into more resilience in the moment.
