Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Tenacious, Inquisitive, Eccentric
Why credit unions: Growing up in a Credit Union family, the co-operative values have always been a part of my life. I had the opportunity to attend Co-operative youth camp as a youth, this further instilled the values. Starting my financial career journey with a big bank, I jumped at the opportunity to join the Credit Union system. What a difference! The Credit Union values their members, employees, and communities. It is great to work for an organization that shares similar values with myself.
Why serve: I enjoy pushing myself to get involved in things that may not be within my comfort zone. Being involved has provided me with development opportunities in the Credit Union System. Focusing on self-development I feel this is a great way to challenge myself and work on my personal growth. Being involved with other young leaders and like-minded individuals from the Credit Unions around the province is an incredible opportunity.
Fun facts: I still have a fairly large collections of CDs I listen to

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Eager, Fun, Friendly
Why credit unions: I never had one hometown growing up, we moved around a lot. So I never really got exposure to Credit Unions. It wasn’t until I got a summer job with Synergy Credit Union that I really got the chance to learn what makes CUs special, and I was absolutely invested, right away. When it came time for me to start settling down and stop moving around, I was really eager to pick a place that was built by the community with the purpose of strengthening the community. I strongly believe in choosing businesses whose values line up with mine, and being able to work for one was something I was so happy to do.
Why serve: In my time with the Credit Union, I have been given so many opportunities to learn and grow. I wanted to work with SYL to pay that forward, continue passing on the opportunities that were afforded to me, while learning as much as I can to be an asset to the Credit Union, and my community.
Fun facts: I absolutely love to cook and almost went to culinary school instead of business school (I wanted to open a Deli), My favorite thing to cook is a really excellent Cubano Sandwich with homemade ingredients, I’m a marvel comics nerd, and last year I self-published a Tabletop Role-Playing Game.

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Bookworm, Intuitive, Passionate
Why credit unions: Why not credit unions? I could go on forever on why becoming a member of a credit union holds a lot more value than being a customer of a large bank. Not only are the credit unions values and interests aligned with those of their members from a community based standpoint, but you’re also treated like the owner of the business (which it’s members are), rather than being viewed as few digits on a screen and being used to extract as much profit from as possible.
Why serve: Back in 2018 after University graduation, I had the fortunate chance to stumble upon my dream job in the credit union system – working as a Corporate Financial Analyst. 5 years later and currently working at Conexus Credit Union, I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel empowered everyday knowing that I work for an organization that actively creates value for our local communities, offers a valuable and differentiated service to our members, and doesn’t have a sole mandate to create value for shareholders.
Fun facts: When I’m not studying for my CFA, I’m usually found diving into psychology, philosophy, classical fiction, and mythology books. You know that moment where Belle walks into the the Beasts library and it takes her breath away? That’s me with books. I have so many that I’ve actually built my own library.

Why serve: Getting to know our members; their wants and needs are what drive us to be and do better.

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Kind, Motivated, Loyal
Why credit unions: I was just finishing up my first year of business at the U of R, and was looking for a summer job that would compliment my degree. I subscribed to an email listing that gave me weekly summer jobs in my area, and one for Innovation Credit Union popped up. I hadn’t been apart of a CU before, but always knew that they were very involved in the community. I decided to apply, and I am so happy I did. I was able to work during the summer and school year in different departments, which provided me the opportunity to really see the different parts of a CU and how important each role is in the overall success of the organization. I also really love how much CU’s care about their members and community, and I’m happy that I get to be a part of a system like that.
Why serve: I wanted to become more involved within the credit union system by creating connections and working collaboratively with young leaders across the CU system in Saskatchewan. I have really enjoyed building so many relationships through SYL this past year, and really stepping outside my comfort zone.
Fun facts: I’ve never been the biggest sports fan, but after becoming a member of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Cheer Team in 2019, football is now one of my favorite sports to watch. Don’t ask me to play any kind of sports though, I’m pretty competitive but I’m also more of a sidelines/ spectator kind of girl.

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Outgoing, Witty, Friendly.
Why credit unions: Credit Unions are there for their members; not just to make money off of them. Having an FI that actually cares about the member is something I am a big believer in, and every member having a voice is a quality I love. The level of care we show in each, and every interaction is a big help in my supporting Credit Unions 100%.
Why serve: SYL gives me the great opportunity to grow my own leadership voice, develop within different group settings, and grow a stronger community presence. It has helped me hone my skills and opened the door to many great relationships as I continue my career. Hearing people’s stories about how something SYL has put on has changed their lives, gives me a great sense of pride.
Fun facts: I am a ginormous Edmonton Oliers fan, my favourite place to travel is Disneyland, and my dream job upon retirement is to work part time at Dairy Queen, so if someone gets mad at me, I can just make myself a delicious ice cream to help me get over it.

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Driven, passionate, and determined
Why credit unions: In a world filled with big corporations, where it seems like your voice is so rarely heard, Credit Unions have the foundational values that we need for future generations (and now). I’ll always support community minded organizations like the Credit Union!
Why serve: I really want to encourage, enable, and motivate young leaders in our Credit Union system.
Fun facts: I write with my right hand, but play sports left handed. I used to play on a provincial level mixed Broomball team, and I think I’ve watched every episode of The Office at least 6 times.

Years in system: I’ve been working in the credit union system for 1.5 years and in the financial services industry for 6.5 years.
Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Organized, Determined, Funny
Why credit unions: The friendly atmosphere and work environment make coming to work enjoyable. I love the principles the credit union is founded on and how they are incorporated into our everyday work life and way of conducting business. It really is the focus of the credit union and the reason why it is so successful. I love the ability to volunteer in surrounding communities and be hands on in my career.
Why serve: Why not? I decided to expand my comfort zone and continually learn and challenge myself. What better way to encourage others to challenge themselves than leading by example.
Fun facts: I love chocolate, I’m scared of heights, and I like staying active.

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Outspoken, Relatable, Enthusiastic.
Why credit unions: We are local and embedded in our Saskatchewan ecosystem. I love knowing that our members have equal opportunity to vote for our board regardless of book of business etc.
Why serve: My passion for developing those around me led me to apply to become a committee member on SYL. So far I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to connect with others across the province. It’s been a privilege to learn more about the CU system as a whole and take tidbits of inspiration and mentorship back with me.

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Understanding, Optimistic, Adaptable.
Why credit unions: I’ve always enjoyed working in customer service as I put a lot of value into helping people. Working with a Credit Union allowed me to take that value and turn it into a career. I truly believe that our communities are better because of the support from local CU’s and I’m proud to be a part of that.
Why serve: My first introduction to SYL was in 2014 when I attended a conference held in Saskatoon. I was by myself and out of my comfort zone but I loved it! I wanted to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone while helping to provide opportunities for learning and growth to others.
Fun facts: I prefer reading over watching tv/movies, I’m an Enneagram 9, my goal this year is to keep 1 plant alive!!

About
2023 SYL Role: Board Member

Three Words My Peers Use to Describe Me: Dependable, resourceful and motivating.
Why credit unions: After working in a big bank for a couple years I could tell it was not the right environment for me, so I applies at a credit union. It was one of the best changes I could have made. I enjoy the team work, collaboration and being recognized as an individual. I have worked through several different roles at TCU and sincerely have grown to appreciate the people by my side. There is a lot of value in making connections with your co-workers and I certainly appreciate not only what they have taught me but more importantly their friendship. I find a lot of value in being a part of the community and am proud to work for a Credit union that strives to support it.
Why serve: I joined SYL as a result of my manager’s encouragement. I have worked on many different projects at TCU, I was looking for more ways to expand my leadership and I have always enjoyed a challenge. I also tell myself to do things that scare me to help expand my skill sets. Applying for the committee instinctively brought out some fear responses in me which is exactly why I applied and thankfully was accepted.
Fun facts: Creativity brings me most enjoyment. I like to explore and have new experiences especially in nature.
